Review: In 2009, Elite Systems contracted freelancer Gaz Murfin to port their J2ME mobile
version of Chuckie Egg to Google's open Android platform, which is also based around Java. As this is a source port of the
earlier J2ME version, this release is consequently also based on Nigel's original SPECTRUM 48K release. Public reaction to
this release was unfortunately negative with complaints of bugs, the music / sound effects not respecting a device's silent
mode and there being no options to customise the game controls as compared to similar titles in the Android Market. Niggles
aside, it's worth checking out if you're a fan of the original Spectrum release - a refund can always be requested if you
don't like it, within 24 hours. It's possible that some of the buyers who rated negatively, and requested refunds may have
been expecting a version of CE with physics taken from the BBC 32K release. One such disgruntled comment was left early on:
"I almost want to buy this game on my other gmail account just so I can refund it again, that's how horrible it truly is."
Rating: 1 star by Tom the 23/9/2009
For whatever reason, Chuckie Egg was withdrawn from the Android Market by 27/01/2010.
